Welcome to Jothashilpa
Jothashilpa Studio Limited, a center for traditional and contemporary arts, aims to support, revive, develop and valorize the traditional art and crafts sector in Bangladesh.
Since 2016 Jothashilpa has been a melting pot where various categories of arts (such as fine art, folk art, native art, crafts etc.) are being juxtaposed to create a new art language. Since its inception Jothashilpa has been closely working with thousands of artisans and traditional folk artists living in rural as well as urban areas. This includes women who are experts in hand embroidery, traditional jamdani weavers, cinema banner painters and rickshaw artists. It serves as a place of exchange between traditional and contemporary academic artists. As a traditional and contemporary art centre, it also aims to build a bridge between traditions and technologies.
Mission & Vision
There is a striking gap between local artists/artisans and the contemporary modern market system. Jothashilpa aspires to become the platform that connects between the highly skilled local artisans and the tasteful modern consumers/ traders from all over the world.
All our products and designs aim to strike a balance between the traditional and the contemporary trends. We strive to achieve excellence by paying homage to our heritage while applying technology and innovation to suit the modern taste.
The designs on implemented across our many products are unique and attractive because they inspire a blend of nostalgia and awe in our customers. We focus on developing feasible working contexts for artisans who are losing their craftsmanship and livelihoods owing to non-conducive consumer ecology.
Our Values
Jothashilpa values Fair Trade. We support local artisans directly with fair terms of trade and we take pride that our values remain a constant source of inspiration for them. We believe transparency and recognition is an inseparable part of what we do here at Jothashilpa.
We focus on developing suitable working environment for the rural female artists as well as the urban local artisan.
